Music

On the My Descent EP there are 5 songs:

My Friends All Say

This is a song I wrote last November after a little tiff between my wife and I, she was upset and left the house in our car.

At the time I didn't know where she was, she wouldn't answer my calls for an hour or so. It was during this time I went into our basement (the kids were there playing barbies) and starting fooling around on our casio keyboard.

I first came up with the chorus, thinking "this is cool", but soon realized I needed another melody for a verse, I immediately started humming and came up with something equally as good as the chorus if not better.

In January I submitted my mix of the song (which wasn't really good) to a Zune contest. This version on the EP is far better than that earlier one.

My Descent

Had this one in the vault for a couple years, I always liked it, especially the chord progression G - C - E (all Major) and how the vocals layered on top, kinda reminds me of the weakerthans - at least it used to.

When I started writing the lyrics for it, I remembered a recurring dream I had when I was younger, haven't had it lately where I was falling, I'm sure many of us have something similar.

I also remember hearing something about if you land and die in a dream then you can die in real life, this is some kind of Urban Myth I think. But I do recall landing in one dream and being fine. lol

Chill

Quickly wrote this last October, in response to Rivers Cuomo's Let's Write A Sawng project. He mentioned me in this video, around the 2:03 mark.

At first I thought this song was nothing special, then around May of this year decided to try recording it.

I'm very happy with the results, it may be the first time in history an answer song is released before the song it's answering to.

The Stars Align

Pictured a story about a young kid who gets beat up at school. And how he deals with it. He also see's a friend fall doing gymnastics. When I first wrote this, I thought it sounded a bit like Tokyo Police Club.

This one was written pretty quickly too, in May of this year, just before my wife and I went away for our 10th anniversary.

Friday Night

Another real old song, I probably recorded most of this back in 2005. I like the distortion on the acoustic, did this in my moms basement in Quebec. My cousins kids were playing as I recorded it. You can hear them is some of the distorted guitar parts. I always liked the effect it added.

The song itself isn't about anything real, just a story of love gone bad really.
